Learn the Basics

STEM encompasses Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  We want to encourage the next generation of leaders in these fields and help educate them about various aspects of working in the renewable energy industry. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. Explore the areas below and if you would like to learn more from our industry experts, check out the News and Resources section for various technical papers and presentations on a variety of topics.

Hydropower

Hydropower

Hydropower is renewable because it draws its essential energy from the sun which drives the hydrological cycle which, in turn, provides a continuous renewable supply of water. It also provides an option to store energy, to optimize electricity generation. Hydropower’s storage capacity and fast response characteristics are especially valuable to meet sudden fluctuations in electricity demand and to match supply from less flexible electricity sources and variable renewable sources.  Hydropower is the most proven, efficient, flexible and reliable source of electricity based on more than a hundred years of experience.

What do Ecologists do

Ecological

The main focus of ecological services is to protect and/or restore our natural environment. Ecology is the study of the relationships between living organisms and between those organisms and their natural environment. Ecological consultants study and provide guidance to the interactions between the built environment (components influenced by humans) and the natural environment (all living and non-living things occurring naturally on the Earth).

Marine

Marine

In its simplest form, this encompasses energy from a number of different resources, all of which are found in the Marine Environment. These resources are often termed ‘Marine Renewables’ and can be divided into 6 major classes:

•  Offshore Wind
•  Tidal
•  Ocean Currents
•  Waves
•  Ocean Thermal Energy
•  Salinity Gradient Power
